The Privacy Policy outlines how Fandom collects, uses and shares its users' personal information and assists them in available privacy rights.

Scope[edit | edit source]

This section of the Privacy Policy explains the range of the policy's effect. It outlines that Fandom controls the personal information that it collect from its users as described in the policy. Basically, the Privacy Policy applies to personal information processed by Fandom on its websites, apps, and its related online and offline offerings (collectively referred to as its "services"): fandom.com and its subdomains, cortexrpg.com, dndbeyond.com, futhead.com, muthead.com, fanatical.com, strawpoll.me, and mobile apps provided by Fandom, including D&D Beyond.

Fandom respects its users' rights to privacy, and it aims to ensure that its collection and use of personal information is appropriate for its services and its users and follows data protection laws.

Personal Information We Collect[edit | edit source]

This section of the Privacy Policy highlights the personal information Fandom collects.

Basically, the personal information Fandom collects depends on how its users interact with Fandom's services and complies with data protection laws. People who access Fandom's services are referred to as "visitors". Most visitors do not have a Fandom account, and the policy does not require that they do, except in the following cases: the creation, management, or administration of a Fandom wiki; the making of a contribution to a Fandom wiki that does not allow for contributions by non-registered users; the submitting of comments about content on Fandom's services; participation in a chat forum; and the viewing of certain content and the making of certain purchases on Fandom's apps.

Information You Provide to Us[edit | edit source]

This subsection explains the content that users provide to Fandom.

  • Account Creation: When users create an account on Fandom or its services, Fandom collects information such as their username and password, valid email address, and date of birth. Users may provide Fandom with additional information, including their first and last names, their gender, and their interests and hobbies. Certain Fandom websites and apps may require even more information, such as users' postal mailing address, telephone number, and payment information.
  • Visitors: Fandom collects the information users provide when they edit the content of a page on Fandom or its services. Their usernames or other indicators that they provided the information are left on the history tab of the edited page, on the recent changes link, and in their contributions page. Fandom also collects information you provide when you upload, purchase, view, or download certain content or products from its services. Fandom's mobile app asks users to select wikis they are interested in.
  • Payment Information: Users may purchase digital items or other goods using Fandom or its services. Fandom uses a third-party payment provider to process payments on the services. Fandom may receive information associated with users' payment information, such as their billing address and transaction information, but it does not directly store payment information on its services.
  • Your Communications with Us: Fandom collects personal information from its users, such as their email address, mailing address, or phone number, when they communicate with Fandom, including requesting information about Fandom's services, registering for its newsletters, and requesting customer or technical support.
  • Surveys: Fandom may ask its users to participate in surveys. If users decide to participate, they may be asked to provide certain information, including personal information.
  • Interactive Features: Fandom offers forums, blogs, chat and messaging services, and social media pages. Collectively, they are referred to as "interactive features". Fandom and its users may collect the information that users submit or make available through these features. Any content users provide from the public sections of these features will be considered public and is not protected by the Privacy Policy. The personal information users provide through interactive features may be viewed and used by third parties. The policy advises users to be careful before revealing any information that may identify them in real life.
  • Registration for Sweepstakes or Contests: Fandom may run sweepstakes and contests. Contact information users provide may be used to inform them about the sweepstakes or contest and for other promotional, marketing and business purposes, if permitted by law. Some governments require Fandom to publicly share the information of winners.
  • Conferences, Trade Shows, and Other Events: Fandom may attend conferences, trade shows, and other events where its staff collect personal information from individuals who interact with or express an interest in Fandom's services. If they provide Fandom with any information at one of these events, Fandom will use it for the purposes for which it was collected.
  • Business Development and Strategic Partnerships: Fandom may collect personal information from individuals and third parties to assess and pursue any potential business opportunities.
  • Job Applications: Fandom may post job openings and opportunities on its services. If anyone replies to one of these postings by submitting his or her application, CV, and/or cover letter to Fandom, Fandom will collect and process the information in it to assess that person's suitability and qualifications for employment.

Information Collected Automatically[edit | edit source]

This subsection outlines the information Fandom collects automatically when visitors use its services.

  • Automatic Data Collection: Fandom collects certain information automatically from users, including, but not limited to: their IP address, user settings, location, and other unique identifiers; pages that they visit; the way users interact with Fandom's services, including any links clicked and search requests submitted. If you use Fandom's browser extensions, Fandom may also collect information about users' activities on other sites to prevent any bugs caused by the extensions. Fandom may attempt to infer other information about users based on the information they've collected or associate it with their accounts on other devices.
  • Cookies, Pixel Tags/Web Beacons, and Analytics Information: Fandom and any third parties that provide content, advertising, or other functionality on its services may use cookies, pixel tags, local storage, and other technologies to automatically collect information through the Services. They are essentially small data files placed on most devices that allow Fandom and its partners to collect certain pieces of information whenever users visit or interact with their services. This section provides two definitions:
    • Cookies: Cookies are small text files placed in device browsers that store user preferences. Most browsers allow you to block and delete cookies, but doing so may cause Fandom's services to break.
    • Pixel Tags/Web Beacons: A pixel tag, or a web beacon, is a piece of code that collects information about users' engagement with Fandom's services. Pixel tags allow Fandom to record information related to specific pages or objects.

The way Fandom uses these technologies fall into four categories:

    • Operationally Necessary: Some technologies allow users access to Fandom's services and are required to identify abnormal website behavior and improve security.
    • Performance-Related: Some technologies assess the performance of Fandom's services, including for analytics practices (see Analytics below).
    • Functionality-Related: Some technologies allow Fandom to offer extra functionality to users, including identifying them when they sign into Fandom's services or keeping track of their specified preferences or interests.
    • Advertising-Related: Some technologies (first party or third-party) allow Fandom to deliver content, including ads relevant to users' interests, on Fandom's services or on third-party websites.

The "Your Choices" section outlines users' choices regarding these technologies.

  • Analytics: Fandom uses Google Analytics, Quantcast, comScore, and other services to collect and process analytics information. Google Analytics uses cookies to assist Fandom in traffic analysis and informing improvements to its services. For more information about Google Analytics, please visit https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/. Users can opt out of Google’s collection and processing of data generated by their use of Fandom's services by going here. Quantcast and comScore collect information about the number of visitors to Fandom's services and extrapolate market research from that data. To learn more about Quantcast, go here. For more information about comScore, go here. For users who live in the European Economic Area, the UK, China, or Brazil, Fandom will only use technologies provided by these analytics service providers if they have given their consent. See the "Additional provisions of this privacy policy that are applicable to EEA and UK residents" and the "Additional provisions of this privacy policy that are applicable to China and Brazil residents" sections of the Privacy Policy below.

Information from Other Sources[edit | edit source]

This subsection outlines the information Fandom collects from other sources. Fandom may obtain information about users from other sources, including through third-party services and organizations, for use alongside user-provided information. Information Fandom collects through these services may include users' names, identification numbers, usernames, locations, genders, birth dates, email addresses, profile pictures, and contacts stored in that service. Fandom uses this information to provide users with more relevant, safer experiences and improve Fandom's services.
